Release SF Assemblymembers Aide From ICE Detention
The Issue
Ho-Yin Mo spends his workdays helping San Francisco families get health coverage, child care and food assistance. Right now, he is being held by ICE at a detention facility in Pahrump, Nevada, and could be deported to Hong Kong. I'm asking the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to release him while his case is decided fairly.
On September 17, federal agents detained Ho-Yin at Las Vegas's Harry Reid International Airport. DHS says he came to the country on a temporary basis in January 2020 and did not leave by that May. His LinkedIn lists studies at UC Berkeley starting in 2018 and a 2020 graduation. Those questions deserve a fair hearing, not a detention cell hundreds of miles from home.
Many Bay Area residents first got to know Ho-Yin as a reporter on KTSF, a Chinese-language TV station. He later organized Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) voters in San Francisco, and since January 2025 he has worked as a field representative for California Assemblymember Catherine Stefani. For many Chinese-speaking families, he is a familiar, trusted face when they need help from their government.
Leaders from different offices agree he belongs back home. Assemblymember Stefani, Congressman Kevin Mullin, Mayor Daniel Lurie of San Francisco and San Mateo County Supervisor David Canepa have all called for his release. Stefani's office called him "a selfless public servant," according to a statement to ABC7 News.
Every day he stays locked up, the people who count on him go without help. Sign the petition to tell DHS and ICE to release Ho-Yin Mo now, so he can return to his home, his job and his community.
