Release Pastor Molis Augustave From ICE Detention
The Issue
Pastor Molis Augustave is a husband, father of two, and community pastor in York, Pennsylvania. On September 5, local police pulled him over for a broken headlight. Instead of a ticket, they handed him to Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) under a 287(g) agreement, a program that allows local police to act as immigration agents. Days later, he was moved hundreds of miles away to a detention facility in Louisiana.
Pastor Molis held Temporary Protected Status (TPS) until the Trump administration ended the program for Haitians. He has a green card application pending with United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). His family, his church, and his community are asking for one thing: let that application be decided before he is deported to a country the U.S. government itself has warned is too dangerous to visit.
"When Molis was detained I was heart broken," said his wife, Omara Nunez. "I have seen Molis help other people including people with family members in detention. But I did not imagine it would happen to me."
Their 2-year-old son waits at the door for his father and lights up at photos of him on his mother's phone. Their 9-year-old daughter still hopes he's coming home. Molis spent years as an organizer helping immigrant families across York and Harrisburg, and now, even from detention, he's started a bible study for the people held alongside him.
A traffic stop should not end in deportation to danger. Sign the petition demanding ICE release Pastor Molis Augustave and allow USCIS to fairly review his pending case.
