Release Palestinian Filmmaker Hamdan Ballal

Release Palestinian Filmmaker Hamdan Ballal
The Issue
Hamdan Ballal, the Palestinian co-director of the Oscar-winning documentary "No Other Land," was violently attacked in his home in Susiya, Masafer Yatta by Israeli settlers on March 24th, 2025. After an ambulance was called to treat his injuries, he was detained by the Israeli military, which has since refused to disclose his whereabouts or condition.
The attack on his village and his subsequent detention provide further evidence that the violent reality depicted in his internationally recognized film continues unabated. His arrest represents an assault on documentary filmmakers worldwide and a severe violation of freedom of expression and press freedoms protected under international law.
We, the undersigned, call upon the Israeli government, military authorities, and relevant international human rights bodies to facilitate Ballal's immediate release from detention, and provide full transparency regarding his medical condition and treatment while in custody.
The international community cannot stand by while a filmmaker is punished for his work exposing human rights concerns. We urge immediate action to secure Ballal's release and protection.
