WE, the_People_Matter, stand in solidarity with Nydarian Jordan, a devoted father of three young sons, and his entire family, who has been subjected to racial profiling and unjust treatment by local law enforcement in Hamilton County, Indiana. On March 8, 2025, Nydarian was pulled over on the highway by an officer of Fishers Police Department under questionable circumstances. This incident highlights a troubling pattern of racial profiling and civil rights violations that must be addressed immediately.

The Incident:

According to the affidavit submitted in support of a criminal complaint, ann officer initiated a traffic stop based on alleged minor traffic violations—a dark-tinted license plate cover and lane drifting. However, the justification for stopping Nydarian raises significant concerns about racial profiling. Notably, these infractions do not warrant the invasive search that followed. 

Once stopped, Nydarian was subjected to an extensive search without his consent or probable cause. Despite the officer’s claims of observing suspicious behavior, the initial traffic violations were minor and should not have led to such invasive scrutiny. The officer's actions reflect a broader issue of systemic racism within law enforcement practices in Hamilton County.

The Consequences:

Mysteriously, during the stop, a significant amount of cash and illegal substances were discovered, leading to multiple charges against Nydarian. However, the legal foundation of this case is rooted in questionable police conduct. The data and evidence used to justify the search stemmed from biases that disproportionately target individuals based on race and appearance.

Nydarian, despite having spent time in prison, has worked hard to rebuild his life. He obtained his Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and was employed at the time of the stop. He, like many others, suffer from the collective trauma of police brutality and the associated fear of unjust treatment under restrictive policies such as frisking. The recent events in Indianapolis, Indiana, where Adam Sykes, an unarmed man of color, was killed by police simply LWB (living while Black), resonates deeply with him and highlights the urgent need for reform & subdue explicit & implicit racial biases.

It shouldn’t be a crime to DWB (drive while Black), yet NyDarian suffers such discrimination in his illegal arrest & imprisonment. Currently, NyDarian reside in a Federal Detention Facility awaiting trial on erroneous evidence.

Our Demands:

We call upon the Hamilton County law enforcement agencies to:

1. Drop all charges against Jordan and allow him to return back to his family.

2. Implement Comprehensive Training: Ensure all officers receive training on racial bias, de-escalation techniques, and proper search protocols to prevent unjust profiling and searches.

3. Establish Independent Oversight: Create an independent civilian review board to investigate claims of racial profiling and police misconduct to ensure transparency and accountability.

4. Adopt Clear Policies Against Racial Profiling: Enact and enforce strict policies that prohibit racial profiling and require officers to document the reasons for traffic stops and searches.

5. Community Engagement Initiatives: Foster open dialogue between law enforcement and the community to build trust and understanding, particularly among marginalized groups.
