For six years, Egyptian human rights lawyer and former member of the National Council for Human Rights, Hoda Abdelmonem, has remained behind bars while her health deteriorates on a daily basis. 

In August 2025, she suffered from two consecutive heart attacks and is currently battling several life-threatening conditions, including:

Blockage in brain arteries causing episodes of temporary paralysis,
Chronic deep vein thrombosis with pulmonary embolisms posing an imminent threat to her life,
Advanced kidney failure after the left kidney completely stopped functioning and the right one began to deteriorate,
Angina and severe joint inflammation requiring urgent surgery and long-term care.
Although her original sentence ended on 31 October 2023, Hoda remains in detention due to new cases brought against her on the same charges. She has been deprived of living with her grandchildren or watching them grow up for years.

Her daughter, Gehad Khaled Badawy, submitted an appeal to the President requesting her mother’s humanitarian release, so she may spend what remains of her life with her family and receive the medical care appropriate to her age and health condition.

Together with more than 4,500 people from across the world, we call for the immediate release of lawyer Hoda Abdelmonem — in response to her family’s plea and in defense of her right to life, health, and dignity.

We, the undersigned, call for:

The immediate humanitarian release of Hoda Abdelmonem.
Her transfer to a specialized hospital to ensure access to adequate medical treatment.
Allowing her to spend the rest of her life with her family and grandchildren.
This is not a political demand — it is an urgent humanitarian appeal to save the life of a woman who dedicated her own life to justice.
Every additional day she spends in prison poses a real and growing threat to her life.

ست سنوات من الألم والانتظار، وما زالت هدى عبد المنعم — المحامية وعضو المجلس القومي لحقوق الإنسان سابقًا — خلف القضبان، بينما يتدهور جسدها يومًا بعد يوم.

ففي أغسطس 2025، تعرضت لأزمتين قلبيتين متتاليتين، وتُعاني من:

انسداد في شرايين المخ أدى إلى عجز مؤقت عن الحركة،

جلطة مزمنة في الوريد العميق مع جلطات ممتدة في الرئة تُهدد حياتها مباشرة،

فشل كلوي متقدم بعد توقف الكلية اليسرى عن العمل وارتجاع في اليمنى،

ذبحة صدرية والتهابات حادة في المفاصل تستدعي جراحة عاجلة ورعاية طويلة المدى.

ورغم انتهاء مدة حكمها رسميًا في 31 أكتوبر 2023، ما زالت قيد الحبس في قضايا جديدة بذات الاتهامات، محرومة من أحفادها الذين لم ترهم منذ سنوات.

كل ما طلبته ابنتها، جهاد خالد بدوي، في التماسها الموجه إلى رئيس الجمهورية هو حق والدتها في الإفراج الصحي، لتعيش ما تبقى من عمرها بين أسرتها وتتلقي الرعاية التي تلائم احتياجاتها الصحية والعمرية.

نحن، إلى جانب أكثر من ٤٥٠٠ شخص من مختلف أنحاء العالم، نطالب بالإفراج الفوري عن المحامية هدى عبد المنعم، استجابةً لنداء أسرتها وحفاظًا على حقها في الحياة والعلاج والكرامة.

نحن الموقّعين أدناه نطالب بـ:

الإفراج الصحي الفوري عن هدى عبد المنعم.

نقلها إلى مستشفى متخصص لضمان علاجها وفق المعايير الطبية.

تمكينها من قضاء ما تبقى من حياتها مع أحفادها.

هذا ليس مطلبًا سياسيًا — بل نداء إنساني عاجل لإنقاذ حياة إنسانة كرّست حياتها للعدالة.
كل يوم إضافي في السجن يحمل خطرًا حقيقيًا على حياتها.
