Senator Tim Kaine,
My name is Joseph Dorsett . I'm writing to you today From a prison cell in hopes that I can bring forth my truth that I've been fighting for almost 20 plus years now. A big part of my fight dates back to 2008 during your term as Governor.

In July 2008 A Counselor at Sussex I State Prison by the name of Angela Sandford (No longer employed by DOC) called your office with news of a Death row Inmate Confessing that his Codefendant was innocent days before he was set to be put to death; This should have been seen as a Declaration in Death yet it wasn't taken serious. The Codefendant that I speak of is myself Senator Kaine.

Kent Jackson wrote an Affidavit in 2007 that was notarized by his Counselor at the time, Anton Daniel exonerating me of the crimes that I have been convicted of Specifically stating that I was not present when the crime took place which is and always has been consistent with the physical evidence. I was made aware of this Confession by a former Counselor Donna M. Jones back in 2007 when she came to the building that I was housed in to speak with me about the affidavit, I didn't get to see it for myself then because it was sent out via mail before I could obtain a copy.

July 2008, On or about the 7th or 8th , Angela Sandford, Donna M. Jones and Anton Daniel came to see me because I had been asking about a copy of the affidavit they went back to Death row and spoke to Kent Jackson who again, verbally cleared my name just days before his death in front of the 3 aforementioned counselors. This led to Mrs. Sandford calling your office, A call in which I sat in on for approximately 10 minutes before I was taken back to my cell due to inclement weather outside. I was told based off of the phone call to you that everything would be looked into the next day; The next day my cell was ransacked and all 3 Counselors were transferred to different facilities.

Senator I bring this to your attention now because I was recently denied a Writ of Innocence in The Virginia Court of Appeals due to credibility issues and made to look as if all of the events in procuring the affidavit were false. All the counselors involved conveniently have amnesia now and remember nothing. Sandford , Daniel and Jones all gave false statements to the Attorney General in regards to this, All saying that none of this happened.

The standard of proving ones innocence in the state of Virginia is virtually impossible to meet if someone writing an affidavit is disregarded even if the actual evidence supports the assertion. It's as if the system is designed to keep us incarcerated even if we can prove that a grave error has been made to put us here. I've done a lot of things throughout this journey, I acknowledge that I falsely incriminated myself via coercion but the facts are the facts, I am innocent . In the state of Virginia it's as if correcting a mistake is less important than upholding a conviction, More effort is put into convicting people with the least amount of evidence against them than finding them innocent, Especially people who look like me.

In closing, All I want is my freedom at the end of the day. As you know, there is no parole in Virginia and I'm currently doing an unservable number of years although Forensic evidence along with several affidavits prove what doesn't need to be said.
