Release Erdeniin Bat-Üül/Leader of the democratic revolution in Mongolia
The Issue
Bat-Uul is one of the leaders who brought the democratic revolution to Mongolia in 1990, at the time he was repressed and imprisoned for political reasons. Recently, he was sentenced for four years in prison again for political reasons. He pleaded guilty to politically motivated defamation and called for the trial to be open to the public, but the trial was closed to the public and he was convicted. The real reason for his detention was that E. Bat-Uul had strongly criticized the ruling People's Party (Communist Party) in Mongolia, opposing their policies and warning that Mongolia was in danger. His right to appeal was violated, and his right to file a court order, which was to be issued within 14 days, was violated after more than 60 days. Immediately after his imprisonment, he was barred from publishing and can't write to his family while in prison. Mongolia's ruling communist People party and pro-Russian forces have been slandering and repressing him since 1990, in part because they believe that Bat-Uul's is a symbol of democracy in Mongolia. This is because Mongolia's democracy cannot be imagined without Bat-Uul, and he is one of the few surviving leaders who pioneered the democratic revolution. Mongolians cannot imagine the history of Mongolia's democracy, the present and the future without this person. The repression of Bat-Uul is an attempt to suppress democracy. He was sentenced to four years in prison, which is believed to have been ordered until the election year Bat Uul is a hero of democracy and the last time he was able to communicate with his family he ratified his compromise with human rights and democracy: "I will fight to the death for your freedom to slander me"
We respectfully request the immediate release of Bat Uul and we also request his right to freedom of expression is respected.
