The Issue

To the Parole Board:
This letter of support is for the release of Mr. James Harvey, aka Abdul Olugbala Shakur, for parole. I have known Mr. Harvey for over four years both professionally and personally.
My name is Quaitie Siverly. I have a Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in Interdisciplinary Studies and American Indian Studies. I was a Court Appointed Advocate for youth aging out of the foster care system in Milwaukee County, Wisconsin, and a Big Sister through the Big Brother Big Sister program for ten years. Currently I am self-employed, teaching art drawing to elementary students in my local school which I have been doing for over ten years. As well, I am an Independent Editor/Publisher, and this is how I met Mr. Harvey.
On a professional level, I have edited endless community program/project documents for Mr. Harvey, so I know intimately the details of the work he has accomplished for the betterment of himself and his communities. His work is extremely impressive for an incarcerated person; it shows in the integrity, intellectual level and wisdom he incorporates into these endeavors with the expertise only to be accomplished with Mr. Harvey’s experience. While editing the documents, it also provided me with an invaluable education related to the programs/projects because of the high level of professionalism. As well, I have published eight books on Mr. Harvey’s behalf that hold the same caliber of the aforementioned.
I have worked with numerous incarcerated men and realize not all can be trusted, but I have never questioned my trust for Mr. Harvey. On a personal level, one cannot work with someone as long as we have and not develop a friendship, but it cannot be possible without mutual respect. Ours has withstood numerous difficult situations given the circumstances surrounding incarceration. It takes a tremendous amount of patience to accomplish all that we have together and Mr. Harvey has never disrespected our friendship or our work; something we will continue once he is released.
It is with great confidence I believe Mr. Harvey will prove to the board, communities, and society that a decision to release him will create the positive changes he has worked on tirelessly from the inside to see them come to life on the outside where he will be able to accomplish all that he can, and will, more effectively.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Quaitie Siverly
