Relay For Life has been a meaningful event at Georgian Bay District Secondary School, originally hoped to be held every other year to support cancer research, raise awareness, and bring our school community together for an important cause. 

Two years ago, our school participated in Relay For Life, and for many students, staff, and families, it was a powerful and memorable experience. As the graduating class, we were excited and hopeful to take part in this event during our senior year. Unfortunately, we have been told that Relay For Life may not take place this year due to lack of support in the school.

 We believe that Relay For Life is more than just a fun event. It represents leadership in students, compassion, and community involvement, all of which are values GBDSS stands for. Many members of our school community have been personally affected by cancer, and this event gives us the opportunity to honour survivors, remember loved ones we have lost, and contribute to a cause that impacts so many lives.

 Students are prepared to plan, organize, and volunteer to make this event successful, with the support of a staff supervisor and school administration. We are proposing that Relay For Life is held at our school in early June 2026, continuing a tradition that means so much to our community.
