Reject the Westlake Data Center Next to Family Homes
The Issue
A massive AI data center is set to rise right next to family neighborhoods in Westlake, Texas, and the people who'll live closest to it say no one asked what it would do to their lives.
More than two dozen residents packed a Keller City Council meeting that ran past midnight to speak out against the project, which sits just across the city line but backs directly onto Keller homes. One resident said she was "deeply concerned about the potential health and environmental impacts that this facility could produce, including noise, air and light pollution," according to the Dallas Morning News. Another resident put it more bluntly: "No one wants to live so close to an AI data center that it will affect their peace, their sleep, their health, and especially the health and development of our children," the paper reported.
Keller City Council was moved enough to take an extraordinary step: unanimously passing a resolution opposing a project outside its own jurisdiction and moving to hire legal counsel to fight it. Keller Mayor Ross McMullin said the city would "explore every legal option available" to protect residents and that he'd push for formal legal action "because those residents deserve nothing less," according to the Dallas Morning News.
This isn't just a Texas problem. Across the country, massive AI data centers are landing next to residential neighborhoods with little input from the people who'll live beside them, leaving families to absorb the noise, light, and pollution while companies reap the benefits.
Westlake's Town Council can still change course before finalizing the development agreement. Sign the petition urging Westlake to reject this data center and protect the families who will live in its shadow.
