The Issue

As a Blythe Ward councillor representing the communities of Tidbury Green and Dickens Heath, I am committed to ensuring that development occurs in a manner that respects our environment and the distinct character of our region. The proposed development of 550 homes in Tidbury Green poses a significant threat to our cherished green belt and would lead to detrimental impacts on our community life.

The chosen site for these homes seriously compromises the principles of sustainable development. Not only is it over a mile away from the nearest railway station, undermining commitments to reduce car dependency, but it also lacks any existing bus services. This absence of public transport options means that this development would inevitably become a "car user development," likely adding over a 1,000 cars to our already strained rural roads. This scenario contradicts our efforts to promote environmentally friendly modes of transport and reduce our carbon footprint.

Furthermore, this development conflicts with the proposed SS2 policy within the Solihull local plan, currently under consultation. Approving this project would prematurely link Tidbury Green with Dickens Heath, erasing the distinct boundaries and character between our communities, and disregarding thoughtful, planned growth.

The green belt serves as a vital buffer in our region, preserving natural areas and providing recreational space while curbing urban sprawl. Its protection is essential not only for biodiversity but also for maintaining our quality of life. Undermining this precious resource for ill-conceived development endangers our commitment to sustainable growth.

We must urge the planning authorities to reconsider this proposed development. With community voices united, we aim to push for developments that are truly in line with the principles of sustainability and good planning.

Please sign this petition to safeguard the uniqueness of Tidbury Green, the surrounding areas and ensure responsible development that preserves our environment and quality of life.
