The Issue

I am a resident of the Mary's Creek community, living adjacently to a property that is currently under threat - property 4501 W Loop 820 S., Benbrook, Texas. Its future as we know it hangs in the balance, with a proposal to rezone the section in the FloodPlain to a "BR" single family zone. This move threatens to introduce 178+ single family dwellings in the current FloodPlain and FloodWay of this land. 80% of this land have been recognized by FEMA as both a "Floodway" and "Flood Plain", acting as a significant watershed for our area. The developer wants to "reshape" and widen the creek by 60 feet.

If this rezoning passes, it will allow for an elevation of the land that endangers not only my home but hundreds others in the vicinity. The introduction of housing developments into this sensitive FloodWay and FloodPlain (Mary's Creek) could lead to severe flooding and erosion, rewriting the FloodPlain map for many homes in the Mary's Creek community and beyond.

Our community has already been impacted significantly by developers in the past, with persistent problems relating to flooding. We cannot sit idly by while another such risk looms overhead. I implore you, stand with us, the residents of the Mary's Creek community. Reject the rezoning of property 4501 W Loop 820 S., and protect the integrity of our homes and the ecosystem we belong to.

We need your help to urge the local authorities to consider the consequences of such a decision. The welfare of our homes, properties, and lives depend on it. Please, sign the petition.
