The Issue

The proposed Mathewson-Redbud Project transmission lines pose significant challenges to our communities surrounding Piedmont, NW OKC, Edmond, Arcadia, and Luther. These lines threaten our health and safety, stand as unsightly intrusions into our neighborhoods, and negatively impact the market value of our homes. It is even more frustrating that these lines would not serve our region, yet they choose to route their infrastructure through our populated areas.

One fundamental issue is the potential health risks associated with electromagnetic fields (EMF) emitted by high-voltage transmission lines. Studies have shown links between prolonged EMF exposure and health issues such as increased risks of certain cancers, neurological disorders, and other chronic health conditions. Our community should not be subjected to these dangers when alternative routes exist and when the service is not even intended for us.

Moreover, the visual intrusion of massive transmission towers presents a blight on our beautiful landscape. Neighborhoods that residents have worked tirelessly to maintain and enhance could be overshadowed by these industrial structures. This not only changes the character of our community but also threatens the enjoyment of our homes and outdoor spaces.

The presence of these lines would also potentially devalue our properties. Real estate markets often see a decrease in property values when such infrastructure is in place, making it difficult for homeowners to sell their homes at equitable prices. This would have long-term economic impacts on our community, affecting everything from local business patronage to school funding.

Lastly, this development lacks consideration for our community's needs and voices. Transource Oklahoma LLC should not proceed without first conducting thorough environmental and social impact studies and engaging with the residents who will bear the brunt of this decision. We call on city officials and the Transource Oklahoma partners, American Electric Power and Evergy, to halt the project plans immediately and to explore alternative routes outside of these populated areas that do not depend on or benefit from their services.

Your voice matters! Please join us in protecting the integrity and safety of our community by rejecting the Mathewson-Redbud Project transmission lines.

Sign the petition today to stand with us in this fight to preserve our health, property values, and the beauty of our neighborhoods.
