As a proud resident of Kokomo, Indiana, where I raised my family and call home, I stand in opposition to the proposed Ordinance #7158. This ordinance would impose a monthly trash fee on residents living within the city limits, a service we have always considered covered by our property taxes.

This proposed fee came as a surprise, especially given that our recently approved 2025 City Budget did not indicate any shortfalls that would necessitate such a charge. Taxpaying citizens like us feel silenced, having our concerns ignored in favour of a last-minute fee that burdens those already struggling under high inflation and tight budgets.

Today, with expenses climbing and budgets tightening more than ever before, we simply cannot afford the unnecessary imposition of this trash fee. We ask our local government, particularly our Mayor and City Councilmen, to remain fiscally responsible, to listen to the voices of their constituents, and to reject this proposed fee.

With this petition, we aim to challenge the ordinance and shed light on the undue burden this would place on young families and those living on small or fixed incomes.
