The Issue

Living in Bonner, MT, I'm constantly reminded of the beauty and fragility of our environment. Our tightly-knit community takes pride in our natural surroundings – the rolling hills, vibrant forests, and the life-giving rivers and streams that traverse Western Montana. Yet, the proposal for a new AI data center threatens to put all of this at risk.

AI data centers are notorious for their insatiable appetite for resources – massive amounts of electricity and water are needed to keep them functional. This is not just an environmental issue; it’s a social and economic one too. As residents, we would bear the financial burden for the increased electricity consumption. The already strained energy infrastructure would groan under new demands, potentially leading to higher utility bills and energy insecurity for local families.

Moreover, we can't overlook the ecological impact. Our community is already facing the dire effects of prolonged drought conditions. Rivers and streams, crucial to local ecosystems and agriculture, are endangered. Adding an AI data center would only exacerbate these environmental stresses, potentially causing irreversible damage to our delicate ecosystem.

We are not anti-technology, but we must prioritize responsible, sustainable growth that aligns with our community values and environmental realities. We urge the decision-makers to reconsider this proposal, evaluate alternative locations better suited to withstand the demands of a data center, and explore green technologies that minimize environmental impact.

Please join me and sign this petition to voice our concerns and protect the environment and community of Bonner, MT. Together, we can advocate for sustainable development that respects our natural heritage and prioritizes the needs of the people over profit-driven projects.
