I can no longer stand idly by while the school voucher system threatens to ravage our children's education, a scheme I believe is the most malignant to strike TN since the pardons sold by Ray Blanton. Unlike Blanton, however, this scam wears a mask of benevolence, making its harm all the more insidious.

Initially, it's proposed to offer vouchers ("free money"). This move effectively bleeds public schools dry, forcing their closure. Parents are then coerced into shifting their children to private schools. Once the transition is complete, the vouchers are abruptly discontinued and/or tuition is raised. The aftermath? Parents are burdened with student loans --- debts that are immune to bankruptcy.

Every state where the school voucher system has been approved has led to a financial crisis threatening to bankrupt the state coffers. In addition, these funds earmarked for tuition are instead squandered on extravagances far removed from 99% of Tennessee children. The public education system, once the bedrock of our society, is slowly being demolished by underfunding and now vouchers.

Our children’s future is too precious to entrust to such a dangerous scheme. Their dreams should not be held captive to a system designed to prioritize profit over their education.

Let's stand up against this, fight for fair and equal education for all children, not just those who can afford it. I urge you to vote "no" on school vouchers and help put an end to this travesty.
