The Issue

We are asking the City of Escalon to REJECT the proposed Murphy Ranch development project by Florsheim Homes due to critical traffic safety concerns. If approved, it would add approximately 72 new homes to the corner of Brennan Avenue and Highway 120 next year. This intersection is already known to be one of the most dangerous in our community. The latest fatality there occurred less than a year ago. The Murphy Ranch Development would significantly intensify traffic congestion in the area, increasing the likelihood of more accidents.

In Florsheim's plans, CalTrans has stated that it will likely be a MINIMUM of five years before any major physical improvements (such as installation of a signal, roundabout, turn pockets, etc.) to the intersection are made, and prior to the year 2045. (20 years from now!) It's important to note that none of these more effective improvement options have even been approved yet. All of this information can be found in Florsheim's plans on page 847.

Our city leaders need to prioritize public safety over development pressure. Moving forward with this project would be putting Escalon residents & everybody who travels through our town at an increased risk. If this project is approved, we as a town will be facing a traffic nightmare. We know this intersection isn’t going to be fixed anytime soon, so WHY make it worse?

If you agree with these concerns, please SHARE & SIGN our petition asking the City of Escalon to reject the proposed Murphy Ranch project.

*Also, we need as many people as possible to attend the Planning Commission meeting on Tuesday (10/14) & upcoming city council meetings to make your voice heard. If you can’t attend, please send an email to: jfrench@cityofescalon.org (City Manager), cityclerk@cityofescalon.org (City Clerk) ahagan@cityofescalon.org (Mayor), mwalker@cityofescalon.org (Mayor Pro-Tem), jengle@cityofescalon.org (council member), sstrohman@city of escalon.org (council member), jkay@cityofescalon.org (council member) *I do not have individual emails for the members of the Planning Commission.
