The proposed construction of data centers in our area presents serious threats that we cannot ignore. Data centers, while essential in today’s digital world, are notorious for their extreme water and energy consumption. According to reputable sources like the U.S. Department of Energy, data centers can consume up to 3% of the global electricity supply and have a substantial carbon footprint. This level of consumption is unsustainable for Rocky Mount, a community striving to reduce its environmental impact and conserve resources for future generations.

Additionally, the noise pollution generated by the equipment within data centers can negatively impact local residents’ quality of life, leading to stress and disrupting tranquility in residential areas. Moreover, despite the perception of high-tech job opportunities, data centers typically offer limited employment benefits, often requiring only a few technical positions that do not significantly contribute to local job creation or economic growth.
