Good evening supporter!
Thankyou for your signature and support to date.
UNSW and developer IGLU have changed their plans to propose a reduced height tower - The two buildings are between 15 and 16 storeys – they are still too tall!
The proposed towers will still substantially impact the sunlight to property's in West Kensington, the view and privacy in our residential outdoor spaces when they are constructed.
So, if you can spare the time, please help us by sending an objection letter to Randwick Council and Ron Hoenig by 6th June 2024. This is an important deadline for final objections to Randwick Council before the SEPP South East Sydney Planning Panel decide whether the DA is approved and determined.
These letters should be emailed to:
Email to : council@randwick.nsw.gov.au.

Dear Mayor Veitch, Councillor Luxford and SEPP,
Or
Dear Ron Hoenig MP,
We the undersigned strongly believe that the proposed development application containing altered plans should be rejected. Our key objections are:
1. The proposed height is 15 and 16 storeys which is still disproportionately tall compared to neighbouring buildings and the existing buildings heights on this part of Anzac Parade. The allowable height is 9 storeys.
2. The development should not be allowed to build to K2K planned town centre heights. These heights should be reserved for town centre areas.
3. If approved, this development will set dangerous precedents for overdevelopment in our area.
4. The proposal is an example of over development and should be reduced in height.
5. The building is an inappropriate scale of proposed and dwarfs existing buildings neighbouring the site and along Anzac Parade.
6. Lack of visual privacy resulting from the proposed towers and increased noise impacts on adjacent residential properties west and south of the development.
7. Substantial overshadowing and substantial loss of solar access and morning sunlight to residential properties. The revised plans still have a huge overshadowing impact on properties.
8. Obtrusive visual bulk which is out of place in its context, and the reduction of local character.
9. The lack of proper community consultation undertaken by the Applicant with neighbours to the site.
10. The lack of a planning proposal and detailed urban design study to propose appropriate height, massing, FSR, GFA and scale constraints to the site.
11. The disregard of existing Kensington character west and south of the site, resulting in a loss of amenity and quality of living for residents.
12. Lack of parking. There will be no additional parking, despite adding over 1000 additional residents.
13. Impacts during the construction period on the local community.
14. This development is an example of small yet expensive student accommodation marketed to wealthy international students. Most students cannot afford this type of accommodation, and it will be mostly empty due to this price and type of development! The University should be providing affordable accommodation, of a lower scale, that is within reach of the domestic students.
15. We are requesting that a community consultation be held with the residential community so that UNSW and Iglu can hear our concerns.
16. In addition to Council’s rejection of this proposal in its revised form, we believe that proper and adequate community consultation should be undertaken to ensure that a well-sited, appropriate and sympathetic building is to be approved.
We are not against appropriate development, but this development is not appropriate or sensitively designed! The community has not seen any of our objections or feedback intergrated other than a small reduction in height, which is not enough. We would like the above addressed by the applicant and the development reduced to a lower height, ideally to match the existing 24m height limit.
Signed,
