STOP THE BAHIA MAR FIASCO AND THE WAVE TROLLEY FOLLY
TIME IS NOW TO STOP THE WAVE: WHAT YOU CAN DO
Citizens Against Bahia Mar Fiasco
Apr 29, 2018 —
From: mary fertig Date: April 28, 2018 at 8:13:14 PM EDT To: undisclosed-recipients:; Subject: What is next with The Wave? Reply-To: marycfertig@gmail.com What is next with The Wave? Two critical events occurred this week: · Tuesday, The County voted 5-3 against an expanded vehicle maintenance and storage facility. · Thursday, the bids were opened and once again came in above the 125% threshold. Thursday’s bids triggered a clause in the Amended and Restated ILA (attached below) passed February 6th by the City Commission. Section 7 of the new document says that if the Design Build Contract price…would exceed 125% of the Design-Build Estimate: The County agrees not to provide its assent to FDOT if all of the following occur: (a) The City considers the issue at its next regularly scheduled commission meeting that is at least (5) days after receiving notice from the County. (b) The City approves an item requesting that the County decline to provide the County’s required assent to FDOT. (c) The City notifies the County by email (to the County Administrator and County Attorney) within twenty-four (24) hours of the action of the City commission requesting that the County decline to provide the required assent. Section 7 goes on to cautions that “if any of the foregoing elements fails to timely occur, the City will be deemed to have authorized the continuation of the Project.” The next regularly scheduled meeting of the City Commission is this Tuesday, May 1st - the day the Commission had said they would vote on the future of The Wave. But first, there is a workshop on The Wave, Monday April 30 from noon until 2 p.m. We have worked diligently during the past year to focus attention on public transportation that works – that is convenient, flexible, dependable, disability and elderly friendly, and affordable – rather that a 2.8 circulator with “rails and wires” that impacts only a small section of the City. The time is finally here for our City Commission to vote on the future of public transportation in our City. Their vote will influence the course of public transportation County-wide. What can you do? Come to the City Commission Workshop on The Wave Monday, April 30, noon until 2 p.m. (See attached agenda, financial report and commission agenda memo.) Come Tuesday night for the critical vote on The Wave – City Commission meeting – City Hall – 6 p.m. (see attached documents). Email our City Commissioners: dtrantalis@fortlauderdale.gov SGlassman@fortlauderdale.gov hmoraitis@fortlauderdale.gov RMckinzie@fortlauderdale.gov BSorensen@fortlauderdale.gov
