Citizens Against Bahia Mar Fiasco

Dec 11, 2017
Mayor Jack Seiler and Commissioners Robert Mckinzie and Bruce Roberts, in the early morning hours (3:30 am) of December 6, 2017 at City Hall, irresponsibly and arrogantly squandered the most valuable Publicly owned asset in the history of Fort Lauderdale. They did so with premeditation and in utter denial of vast Public opposition.
In the memo above, the City Auditor advised the Commissioners that the Bahia Mar Lessee had provided nothing for him to even audit much less justify recommending approval of 651 rental apartments at Bahia Mar. Nada!
The Auditor warned that In two days the City would be faced with the decision of giving away Bahia Mar based on a Proposal that was nothing more than “conceptual at this point”, a color rendering, with no “business plan...available for review.”
This, in fact, is what happened, in spite of overwhelming testimony in opposition to the Proposal.
The soon to be ex-Mayor Seiler and the potential next Mayor, Bruce Roberts, and his side-kick Ommissioner Robert Mckinzie, perpetrated on the taxpayers and residents of Fort Lauderdale an inexcusable and shameful breach of the Public Trust.
The unaware public should be alarmed at what has just happened and how it happened. Those that already know are considering the next steps to take.
Decisions about the future of Fort Lauderdale, with the complicity of a few useful idiots, are being shaped by powerful developer interests in Miami who have ruined that City and now have set their sights on Fort Lauderdale.
If Bruce Roberts is elected Mayor, you can bet that Fort Lauderdale will become another Miami at the hands of opportunistic developers.
The stage is set. The next 30 days leading up to the January 16th election are critical for Fort Lauderdale’s future. The next Mayor must be anybody but Bruce Roberts.
We need a new Mayor and Commissioners who will be true Fiduciaries and Stewards
of the public interest who can reform politics in Fort Lauderdale.
(In our next installment we will discuss the Developers’ Disclaimer which effectively leaves the Fort Lauderdale Taxpayer on the hook for the risk of the inevitable failure of the Bahia Mar Fiasco).
