Citizens Against Bahia Mar Fiasco
Dec 6, 2017
At 2:00 am, Commissioners voted 4-1 (Trantalis was only Commissioner OPPOSED) to approve Lessee’s site plan merely because it conformed to Zoning requirements. Commissioners ignored overwhelming testimony about the negative aspects of the site plan and the 651 apartments which, it was argued, are not permitted by the Lease.
The second vote pertained to the Commissioners’ decision to provide consent to the Lessee to proceed with the plan. At 3:00 am the Commission voted 3-2 to give consent to Lessee (Trantalis and Rogers voted to withhold consent)
Stay tuned for response to this disappointing outcome.
PS
Two Commissioners (Roberts and McKinzie) woke up when 3 ring binders were presented containing the names of almost 3000 Petitioners Opposed to the Lessee’s Proposal. McKinzie and Roberts scrambled for the microphone to try to discredit the legitimacy of the names on the Petition. (It was the only comment or question either had during the entire 8 hour hearing).
Their reaction was an insult to the integrity of all the conscientious people who elected to engage in this Petition to oppose this Bahia Mar Fiasco.
McKinzie and Roberts insinuated that the Petitioners who registered a location outside of Fort Lauderdale were not qualified or eligible to express their opinion about the Bahia Mar proposal.
Do they not realize that a significant percentage of people live elsewhere and maintain Fort Lauderdale as a secondary residence?
Odd they should question legitimacy of non-resident Petitioners given that McKinzie was accused of not being a legal resident of Fort Lauderale when he ran for office in 2014 and both McKinzie and Roberts accepted significant campaign donations from Miami residents who were family, neighbors and friends of the Lessee.
