Reinvest our Taxes into Middleborough - Restrict Town's take home vehicle policy

The Issue

As a resident of Middleborough, MA, I am deeply concerned about the financial impact of our town's current take home vehicle policy.

Right now, this policy allows at least twenty-five (25) town employees to use taxpayer-funded vehicles (in some cases, large, semi-luxury SUV's) for commuting, which places an extraordinary and unnecessary financial burden on our community. Our tax rates continue to rise to support such wasteful programs, yet the benefits to our town are minimal at best.

The policy in its current form wastes hundreds of thousands of dollars, funds that could be much better invested in initiatives that truly benefit our community. We could be supporting health and safety initiatives, childhood education, addressing critical infrastructure repairs, enhancing community programs for our Veterans and Elderly and improving public services—all things that offer a tangible return on investment for our tax dollars.

Our proposed solution is straightforward, effective and rapidly executable:

Restrict the take home vehicle policy to:

  • Police and Fire Chiefs
  • Any blue-plated (Municipal) K9 or animal control vehicle with specialized, installed equipment
  • Any blue-plated (Municipal) Utility truck, equipped with dedicated tools

Doing so will significantly reduce wasteful spending, allowing tax revenues to be invested in areas that genuinely enhance the quality of life for Middleborough residents.

We must hold our elected officials accountable and demand that our tax dollars are used wisely.

By eliminating or significantly reducing this policy, we can ensure a more efficient and effective use of public funds in our community.

Join me in urging the Town of Middleborough to prioritize responsible financial management and community well-being over wasteful expenditure by signing this petition today.
