We call on the government to reintroduce mandatory dog licenses in England, a strategy that was abandoned in 1987. Collecting data through dog licensing can be an effective way to monitor dog populations, fight puppy mills, and prevent illegal breeding. In the Netherlands and parts of the United States, where dog licenses are mandatory, the results show more accurate pet population control and improved welfare measures for dogs. Furthermore, the generated revenue from this licensing could be reinvested in local animal welfare programs, contributing to a better life for our pets.
