Reintroduce direct bus service from Peterborough to March
The Issue
I am writing this petition out of deep personal frustration, reflecting the everyday inconvenience and anxiety that so many in our community experience due to the lack of a direct bus connection from March to Peterborough. For a journey of just 15 miles, being forced to switch buses midway is completely unnecessary, highly stressful, and routinely unreliable.
Right now, our entire daily commute hinges on a precarious "handshake" connection at Whittlesey. Because the timetable leaves virtually no margin for error, a minor traffic delay of merely five minutes on the bus out of March can cause passengers to miss their connection, leaving them stranded in Whittlesey for up to an hour. This issue becomes far more serious and unsafe during evening commutes. If the service returning from Peterborough runs late, passengers risk being left stranded late at night with no onward travel options to get home to March, Coates, or Eastrea, leaving people with no choice but to pay for expensive taxis or wait in the cold.
The solution to this daily headache is simple and immediate: Extend the existing X32 service directly into Peterborough.
Reestablishing a direct route is no longer just a preference—it is an absolute necessity. By extending the X32, we provide true, dependable reliability and eliminate the constant "connection anxiety" that commuters face every morning and evening. This small adjustment would instantly wipe out the wasted 15 to 20 minutes spent waiting around at Whittlesey, cutting travel times and making the bus a genuinely competitive, viable alternative to driving along the busy A605.
The success of direct routes is already a proven concept in our region. The X31 model (connecting Ramsey directly to Peterborough) has clearly demonstrated that removing transfers directly boosts ridership and public satisfaction. The residents, workers, and students in March, Coates, and Eastrea deserve that exact same standard of service to access jobs, healthcare, and education without unnecessary barriers.
A direct X32 line would be a vital investment in our community’s well-being, local economy, and regional connectivity. I implore Mayor Paul Bristow and the Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority (CPCA) to take action, extend the X32, and give our towns a public transport system that actually works for the people who rely on it.
Please join me in signing and sharing this petition to make our voices heard. Together, we can push decision-makers to deliver the direct, reliable, and efficient X32 service our community urgently needs.
