I stand before you as a member of the LGBTQIA2S+ community, a mother, a future social worker, and someone deeply passionate about our LGBTQIA2S+ youth. The issue at hand is the pressing need to reintroduce Assembly Bill 1161 to the state assembly and get it passed. This bill, which calls for a ban on conversion therapy for minors in Wisconsin, is about keeping our young people safe. This bill would be just one step in the direction of banning conversion therapy for all. 

Conversion therapy, discredited as an ineffective and inhumane practice, is still allowed to threaten our LGBTQIA2S+ youth in our state. Not only is this therapy not successful in changing a person's sexual orientation or gender identity, but it also poses serious threats to the mental health of minors subjected to it. The American Psychological Association has reported substantial psychological damage in individuals who underwent this type of "therapy," including symptoms of depression, anxiety, and decreased self-esteem. 

It's time we protect our children in the real sense of the word. Reintroducing and passing the Assembly Bill 1161 will be a significant step in the right direction. By banning conversion therapy for minors in Wisconsin, we can ensure a safer and more humane life for our LGBTQIA2S+ youth.
