Reinstating Affirmative Action in the state of Michigan

The Issue

What is the Affirmative Action?

The Affirmative Action- is an action or policy favoring those who tend to suffer from discrimination because age, sexuality, gender, race or religion, especially in relation to employment and education opportunities.

In 1961, President Kennedy was the first to use the term "affirmative action" .

 The VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 offered the promise of equal employment opportunity by prohibiting job discrimination on the basis of race, color, religion, sex and national origin. No longer could employers discriminate in hiring, firing, promotions, pay and other employment decisions.

The reason why we should reinstate Affirmative Action in the state of Michigan?

1) Allow minorities a chance to receive equal opportunities;

2) The state will monitor different institutions and business for fair practices;

3) Assist individuals who suffer from discrimination;

4) Make sure that educational institutions do not discriminate against new applicants; and

5) Affirmative Action is not an African American issue but a human rights issue.
