As a healthcare worker who serves the community tirelessly day and night, I personally struggle with the limited operating hours of our local Walmart. The reduction of Walmart's operating hours from 24/7 to limited daytime hours during the pandemic has caused undue hardship, particularly for those in essential services and students with unstable schedules, like myself. It's challenging to find time to acquire household necessities due to the small-town access constraints for these essential goods.

The move to reduce operating hours during the pandemic, while logical at the time, continues to persist even as conditions change. Pre-pandemic, Walmart, the largest retail corporation in the world, housed 4,756 stores across the United States, most operating 24/7 (Statista, 2020). Now, our collective situation has improved significantly, yet the operating hours remain limited. This shift affects not only me - it impacts thousands of essential workers, students, and others forced to adapt to an unpredictable schedule, all united by a common need for round-the-clock access to necessities.

By returning to 24/7 hours, Walmart has the potential to ease such hardships and provide a safer shopping experience for those who must shop during off-peak hours. Their initiative will serve as an example for other retailers, highlighting their commitment to serving all customers, regardless of their schedules.
