Reinstate the within Blackburn and Darwen bus pass

Reinstate the within Blackburn and Darwen bus pass
The Issue
I am a resident of Blackburn with Darwen, and the recent decision by Transdev to remove the within Blackburn and Darwen bus pass has severely impacted my daily life and the lives of countless others in our community. Without this pass, the cost of transportation has skyrocketed, making commuting around Blackburn and Darwen almost unaffordable for many.
For those of us who rely on public transportation for work, school, or daily errands, the introduction of these higher ticket prices imposes a significant financial burden. This is not just a minor inconvenience—it is a major obstacle in our daily routines. Public transportation should be accessible and affordable for everyone, yet with these recent changes, it seems that is no longer the case for our area.
Blackburn and Darwen have a diverse population with various socioeconomic backgrounds. Many people here depend on public transport to earn their livelihoods, pursue education, and maintain social connections. By reinstating the bus pass, Transdev can alleviate the financial stress on its customers and encourage more people to use public transportation, which in turn supports sustainability and reduces traffic congestion.
Statistics show that affordable and reliable public transport is a key factor in social mobility and economic stability. Studies have highlighted that access to cost-effective transportation options directly impacts residents' quality of life and their ability to access employment and educational opportunities. Blackburn and Darwen’s goal should be to foster an inclusive community where everyone can thrive, and transportation plays a critical role in that mission.
Why should people only traveling within the borough be charged the same prices as someone traveling from for example Preston to Burnley this is highly unfair.
Ticket price changes are as follows
ADULT WEEKLY WAS £19 NOW £25 which equals a 31.5% increase
CHILDS WEEKLY WAS £12.70 NOW £20 which equals a 57.4% increase.
So a child's weekly ticket to get to school and back, over 39 weeks now has an increase in price of £284.70 and an overall price of £780 per year.
An adults weekly ticket to get to work over the year has an increase of £312 and an overall price of £1300.
All this during a cost of living crisis.
I understand a price raise but this is ridiculous.
We urge Transdev to listen to the voices of Blackburn and Darwen's residents. Reinstating the within Blackburn and Darwen bus pass would demonstrate a commitment to putting the needs of the community first, ensuring that everyone can move around freely and securely without financial strain.
Please join me in calling on Transdev to reconsider their decision and reinstate the within Blackburn and Darwen bus pass. Sign this petition today to make our collective voice heard and drive positive change for our community.
