On December 15, 2018, the University of Nevada Reno Rifle Team received the devastating news that after the 2018-2019 season, UNR’s Rifle Program would be discontinued. The entire team was stunned and heartbroken by this unexpected announcement  — made during the middle of final exams  -- as there was no prior indication that terminating the program was even being considered.

The members of this year’s UNR Rifle Team, like the many members who have come through the program over the last 23-years, have devoted a significant part of their collegiate experience at UNR, practicing, competing and proudly representing UNR.  They have dedicated countless hours at the shooting range in order to compete as a nationally ranked, Division I NCCA Rifle Team, while balancing the academic demands of a college student.  Every student who has come through the program under Head Coach Fred Harvey has been held to the highest academic and athletic standards, and has served as a true example of a collegiate scholar athlete for which UNR can be very proud.

Accordingly, we, the undersigned, are respectfully requesting that the University of Nevada, Reno reconsider its decision, and reinstate the UNR Rifle Program, effective immediately.
