The Issue

As members of the Wildcat Sports Association (WSA), we were shocked and disappointed when we learned that Montgomery County had given the Tram Rd Field contract to Splendora Softball for 2024. This news was delivered via text on January 26th, after weeks of our inquiries about our soccer league's future. The county even stated that they had no idea we even had a soccer league for 2023, when they were assisting in putting in practice fields at Tram Rd Fields.  The county representative had implied in December 2023 that WSA would be receiving the contract for 2024 when they called to remind WSA to put in the contract request, which makes this sudden change even more disheartening.

In 2020, at the request of Montgomery County Commissioner, WSA created a football and cheer youth program for the community. We followed through with this request and also successfully launched a soccer league in 2023. Our dedication to providing reasonably priced sports opportunities for young people is evident.  The programs have kids from Shepard, TX to Porter/Kingwood area participating.

However, without access to Tram Rd Field, these programs are at risk. The field is not just a piece of land; it's where our children learn teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship. It's where they make friends and create memories that last a lifetime. WSA has built something meaningful here - a safe environment that fosters growth, camaraderie, and sportsmanship among our young ones all while having fun.

We urge Montgomery County officials to reconsider their decision and reinstate the Tram Rd Field Contract to Wildcat Sports Association for 2024. This action will ensure continuity in our youth programs and demonstrate respect towards organizations that work tirelessly for community development.
