Reinstate the Train Line from Braintree to Bishops Stortford

The Issue

I am a local resident passionate about our community, public transportation, and the environment. The discontinuation of the line connecting Braintree to Bishops Stortford has been deeply felt for many years now by older generations, leaving a void in our transportation system that is inadequately filled by current alternatives. It was a part of history.

History

Stops on the line included Station road Great dunmow, Easton lodge, Hockerill Halt, Felsted, Rayne, and 2 more in takeley.
The absence of this  train line impacts not only those who cannot drive such as young families, it inconveniences the elderly who once relied on the line many years ago as a comfortable way to commute which could prevent old age loneliness, it also would allow people to get out more and explore cities like London.
It is extremely expensive driving to london, or even travelling from stansted. This burden often means young people haven’t ever left their home town!

Not only do I think Braintree and ‘Stortford should be connected again, I believe a second platform could be built connecting Saffron Walden to Great dunmow/Braintree. There would be stops in small towns such as Thaxted and Great Easton.

I belive this would be so useful, especially to teenagers in small villages who have to get 2/3 busses just to get close access to a train station in order to get to school or college. Some teenagers even miss out on opportunities because of lack of transport.

Traffic

The Uttlesford District Council's draft local plan for 2021–2041 includes 869 homes allocated for Great Dunmow. The plan also includes over 1,600 homes for the parishes of Takeley and Little Canfield.
Many of these people could have jobs far away in locations such as Chelmsford, Cambridge,Braintree,London - regardless of business or leisure , our roads simply will not be able to cope with all the new traffic in the years to come.
Roads may have to get widened , new lanes added causing a further expensive and even causing diversions, disrupting people’s work days.

If the stations were built, evidence and statistics could be collected, to prove less cars are being used and more people are using train transportation. This evidence could be used to show we do not have to make changes to our roads and waste money on them.

Moreover, reinstating the train line will open up job opportunities, provide easier access to local resources, and reduce the reliance on cars, having a considerably positive impact on the environment. As per the UK Department for Transport's ‘Rail Factsheet’ from 2020, trains produce 22% less carbon dioxide per passenger kilometer compared to cars, making them a more sustainable choice for everyday travel.

While the old tracks have now been built near or on, I am certain there is a way around this. There is always funding some where and I would love if this got big enough to be seen by a politician.
New stations are built all the time or even old ones being reinstated, I believe this can happen in our town despite a road now being in the way ,if it can be done else where.

In light of these factors, let us band together to bring back our train line, standing as a united front to improve our local transportation system, enhancing opportunities, and reinstating a bit of very much missed history back into the modernised day. Every voice counts - sign this petition to reinstate the old train line.
