Reinstate the Right to Bear Arms for Non-Violent Felons

The Issue

As a product of circumstances, I was once labeled a non-violent felon for making ends meet, not by harm but through illicit trading. Now I stand in the face of an uneasy era where a known felon ascends to the highest office of this land. Yet, we, non-violent felons, are still denied the basic right to protect ourselves and our kin. Our education has told us that Presidents must be the torchbearers of ideals, projecting a history of service and respect for the law. The scenario has dramatically changed.

In the United States, almost 20 million people have at least one felony conviction, and the vast majority of these are for non-violent offenses such as drug possession (The Sentencing Project). These individuals, like me, are denied the basic right to bear arms based on previous mistakes. It doesn't align with the spirit of justice when the leader of our nation can carry their sins publicly, yet we, the common people, are branded for life for non-violent misdemeanors. We live in fear, lack adequate protection, and our basic constitutional right to bear arms is compromised.

This must change. If a felon can handle the fate of a nation, a non-violent felon should bear the right to protect themselves within the precincts of their home. We request a revision of the current legislation to adjust the spectrum of discretion, allowing non-violent felons to possess firearms. It is not just a plea, but a demand for justice and equality. Sign this petition to help non-violent felons reclaim our constitutional right to bear arms.
