For me and all my teammates, McGill Field Hockey provided a stable grounding, lifelong friendships, and invaluable life lessons. We were more than just a team; we were a community that supported each other both on and off the field. This past season marked a milestone as we celebrated our first win in six years, a testament to our resilience and commitment. 

Unfortunately, on November 20th, McGill Athletics and Recreation stripped us of our varsity status as part of their "restructuring" process. Despite being entirely self-funded and the only university field hockey team in Quebec, we have been cut without opportunity to appeal. Over the years, our team has steadily improved despite receiving minimal support from Athletics. We have passionately contributed to building a field hockey community in Quebec and consistently shown unwavering support for other McGill Varsity teams.

Losing our varsity status not only undermines our achievements but impedes our ability to compete in the OUA and jeopardizes the growth of field hockey in the province. This team has empowered us to become better players and individuals who stand up for our rights and fight for each other. 

We have worked diligently to be recognized among McGill’s varsity sports and have earned our place through dedication and effort. We envision a future where field hockey continues to flourish in Quebec, inspiring more students to pursue both the sport and the values it instills.

We call upon McGill Athletics and Recreation to reconsider their decision and reinstate our varsity status. This recognition is vital not only for our team but for the broader field hockey community we’re striving to grow.
