Reinstate the Endearing Christmas Tradition at Legion Park

The Issue

I, along with countless others in the Owensboro community, have grown to cherish the festive Christmas lights display at Legion Park. This tradition is personal and close to my heart, having existed ever since I can remember. I've been taking my children to witness the enchanting illuminations, creating holiday memories that hold a special place in our lives. Now, my children, along with other future generations, stand to lose this valuable experience because of financial priorities.

Over the years, this magical showcase of Christmas lights has become a staple icon tradition for Owensboro communities, continually attracting both locals and visitors alike. Its cancellation sends a dire message about our city's commitment to preserving its cultural heritage and shared family values in favor of monetary concerns. Sustainability need not mean eradicating traditions that have fostered communal unity and seasonal cheer over generations.

Indeed, community events like holiday lights in the park promote a sense of communal unity and joy. They demonstrably increase resident satisfaction, which in turn boosts local economic activity (Place Economics, 2015). Let's reach out, make our voices heard, and insist that our local government prioritize community traditions over short term financial interests.

Join me in appealing to the local government to bring back our beloved Christmas lights to Legion Park. The radiance of these lights represents more than just holiday decorations; it's about preserving our shared heritage and nurturing community bonds. Let's light up Legion Park once again. Please sign the petition.
