The Issue

For years, the enchanting lights and mesmerizing melodies of the Fiddler's Carnival were emblematic of our beloved Athens; a tradition woven into the fabric of our community, and etched in our collective memory as an event we held close to our hearts. Since it’s discontinuation, a deeply felt void has been left in our community. School graduations and family gatherings aren't the same without this cherished tradition that brought so much joy and unity. The Fiddler’s Carnival has, in a sense, defined Athens, making it a unique hometown where bonds were built and strengthened across generations. It’s disappearance has caused much dismay, as evidenced by a surge in citizens voicing their yearning for its return. Moreover, the economic benefit to our community was significant, with local enterprises thriving on the influx of visitors and locals alike during the Carnival period. For the sake of our cherished traditions and for the community spirit we stand for, it is critical that we rally together to bring back this annual event which has formed an integral part of our social fabric. We urge our decision-makers to reinstate the Fiddler’s Carnival, returning to us our endearing tradition and revitalizing our community spirit. we are kindly asking the Athens Old Fiddlers Foundation and Fiddles on Wheels—who have played such an important role in shaping our local traditions—to consider bringing the carnival back. We believe that, with your support and leadership, this cherished event could once again bring life and excitement to our community. We would truly appreciate it if you would sign and share this petition to show just how many of us want to see the carnival return.
