The Issue

The decision to stop the 520 bus service from Castle Douglas to Dalmellington has had a profound impact on our community. Many of us in Carsphairn and the surrounding areas have been left stranded without this vital connection. For those of us without the luxury of a car, the bus was not just a convenience, but a necessity.

The absence of the 520 route has severely disrupted our ability to access healthcare services, engage in shopping, and connect with other parts of Scotland, such as Ayr and further north. The loss has left many without a viable means to travel to Dumfries and other essential locations, which were easily accessible with the 520 bus.

Many residents now face the unaffordable expense of taxi fares, which exceed £15 one way. This is simply not manageable for those on fixed incomes or struggling financially. Public transportation is a basic need, and its removal has disproportionately affected the most vulnerable in our community.

The reinstatement of the 520 bus route is not merely a request but a crucial need for the sustainability and wellbeing of our community. It is vital that those in decision-making positions recognize the difficulties brought on by the cessation of this service and take immediate action to restore it.

We urge the local council and transportation authorities to consider the hardships faced by residents and work towards reinstating this essential route. Stand with us to bring back the 520 bus. Sign this petition to show your support and make a difference in the lives of many who rely on this service.
