Reinstate the 4a and 4b Foxhill and Odd Down buses in Bath

Reinstate the 4a and 4b Foxhill and Odd Down buses in Bath

The Issue

First West of England brought in various changes to their bus services on 1st September, one of them being the subject of this petition. The 4a and 4b buses worked well, there was no need to change them, why fix something that wasn't broken? The buses were well used, and alot of people used them for different reasons daily.

The 4A no longer exists, it is now a 13. It no longer serves Weston and RUH from Foxhill, instead it runs back out towards Batheaston again like it used to years ago. I know alot of people used this bus to get to Weston/RUH and vice versa so this is very disappointing. The 3 from Bathford now goes to Weston instead, meaning Weston still has 2 buses (4 and 3) but Foxhill no longer has a direct link.

The new service of 13 runs every hour instead of every 30 minutes. This is because the number 2 from Combe Down also serves Foxhill (Queens Drive).

The last journey of the 13 bus from the bus station to Foxhill is 19.43, and from Kewstoke Road towards town at 20.06. There is no longer a 4B service. These are the last journeys that operate via Wellsway. From then on we are now required to use the 2, which operates via Combe Down, Mulberry Way, Queens Drive and then back through Mulberry and then into town via Ralph Allen Drive. As we all know these are very small buses due to the village, so I dreaded to think how busy they could get, especially in the evenings with the 4B now withdrawn. This has been the case already less than a week into these new changes. The buses are too small, get very busy, and yet whilst they are so frequent, the 4A and 4B still worked alot better than the new changes.

The last 2 from the City Centre has stayed at 23.45. The 4 from the City to Odd Down now has a later time of 23.59.

I have no idea why they made these changes. When I first heard of them, I assumed the Odd Down and Foxhill buses will be split up at night again instead of the joint 4Bhad, but I was shocked to see how they are expecting everyone to use the 2 now instead and stop the 13 early.

▪️The 4A is now a 13, serving Batheaston instead of Weston.

▪️The 13 stops at 19.43, meaning Foxhill loses it's link to Odd Down and Bear Flat in the evenings.

▪️The 2 now serves Foxhill, meaning the 13 is every hour travelling to the centre via St. Martins/Wellsway/Bear Flat. The 13 is also a small bus like the 2. The double deckers worked much better, there are none of these any more.

▪️The 13 does not run on Sundays, and the 2 stops early in the evening at 18.55 from the City Centre. This is an outrageous decision, Foxhill and Combe Down are excluded from buses on Sunday evenings.

All these changes have caused effects on passengers with numbers of various reasons including:

▪️No direct bus to RUH
▪️Can't get to Odd Down or Bear Flat as easily
▪️The 2 buses are so frequent causing nuisance on roads in Mulberry and Combe Down
▪️Buses can get too busy
▪️People have to walk home or spend money on Taxi's on Sunday evenings, this can cause young women or others to feel in danger.
▪️Odd Down and
Foxhill do not have a link in the evenings no more.
▪️No longer one bus between RUH and St. Martins Hospital.
▪️Can no longer get a 2 trip return ticket because these changes don't even make it possible.

▪️Midford Road/Southstoke Road and the start of Bradford Road area have no bus in the evenings, aside from the D2.

I propose these changes need to be reverted, and to bring back the 4a and 4b bus services. Please show your support and opinions by signing.
