Hello! After we emailed AC Transit with our input from this petition, we have recieved a response!

"Thank you for submitting comments on the changes to service to Skyline High School associated with the implementation of Realign. We’re aware of the challenges that this service change has caused and are working to remedy the situation."

"As you mentioned, Line 31 was originally planned to alternate its eastbound terminal between Chabot Science Center and Skyline High School (Skyline Boulevard & Balmoral Drive). Each terminal was supposed to be served by Line 31 every 60 minutes. One major difference between the former Line 39 and the new Line 31 is that, due to the length of the route, buses need to layover at Skyline Boulevard & Balmoral Drive. AC Transit must have a restroom facility for bus operators near each layover location that is available during all hours that service is provided.

"Unfortunately, AC Transit was unable to come to an agreement with Oakland Unified School District on a suitable restroom in time for the Realign implementation in August. Due to not being able to provide a restroom near the Skyline Boulevard & Balmoral Drive terminal, the decision was made to have all Line 31 trips terminate at Chabot Science Center where a restroom facility was made available."

"We continue to work with Oakland Unified School District staff on solutions to providing all-day restroom access that would allow Line 31 service to be moved to Skyline Boulevard & Balmoral Drive as initially planned. Our hope is that we’re able to address this situation in time for our next opportunity for service change (January 2026) or sooner."

We would like to counterclaim. Our principal, Ms. Rebecca Huang, has stated that she would allow a bathroom stop at our school. We have a usable and clean bathroom on the field that is easily accessible to all AC Transit drivers. There is an accessible bathroom, and Ms. Huang was more than willing to allow it to be used by drivers.
