The Issue

My name is Syed Murtaza, a proud and active member of the University of Michigan's Muslim community. Recently, I was removed from the Michigan Muslim Men group chat on WhatsApp. This platform has been crucial for me and many others in fostering connections, sharing information, and building a sense of belonging within our community.

The University of Michigan is home to over 6,000 international students from different backgrounds (source: University of Michigan), with a significant portion being Muslims. The chat group serves as an essential tool for us to navigate through university life while maintaining our cultural identity.

Being excluded from this group has not only affected my social interactions but also my ability to participate in important discussions related to our community at the university. It's not just about me; this situation sets a precedent that could affect any member's standing within our tight-knit community without proper justification.

Therefore, I urge you all - fellow students, faculty members at the University of Michigan and residents of Ann Arbor - to sign this petition calling for my reinstatement into the Michigan Muslim Men WhatsApp group. Your support will send a strong message about inclusivity and fairness within our diverse university community.
