The Issue

As a concerned parent and a fellow Christian, I feel a deep sense of injustice in the way my son's friend, Zion Ramos, was removed from his online class at Arkansas Connections Academy. On September 23, during a daily social session on Zoom, Zion decided to share his faith in a brief and respectful two-minute statement. Despite students being allowed to discuss any topic as long as it wasn't violent, vulgar, or obscene, Zion was abruptly removed from the session. This action not only struck me personally, having faced similar challenges regarding religious expression myself, but also highlights the overlooked importance of religious freedom in educational settings.

Arkansas Connections Academy is an online public school. According to First Liberty Institute, students are clearly permitted to talk "about whatever they want" during these social times. Zion's removal blatantly contradicts this policy and sends a discouraging message to students who wish to express their beliefs respectfully.

In a world where diverse opinions and beliefs should be encouraged, it is disheartening to see a young student silenced for his faith. Regardless of one's personal beliefs, the freedom to express them is enshrined in the First Amendment, affirming that religious freedom is a right for everyone, particularly in educational settings.

We, as Christians, must unite and use our collective voices to advocate for our rights and the rights of others. Zion's situation is not an isolated incident but part of a broader issue that affects us all. By standing up, we not only support Zion but defend the fundamental freedoms that underlie our society.

Join me in petitioning Arkansas Connections Academy to reinstate Zion Ramos' right to freely express his faith without fear of reprisal. Sign this petition to demonstrate our commitment to protecting religious freedom within our schools. Let us act as a mighty army in Christ, using our voices to bring positive change and ensure every student's rights are honored and respected.
