I am a student in Plano, TX, and I believe that the ability to have our profile pictures is a fundamental right for us students. This privilege was recently revoked due to a few inappropriate instances. However, it's unfair for the majority of responsible students to lose this form of self-expression because of the actions of a few.

Profile pictures are more than just images; they're an avenue for us students to express our identities. They bring joy into our schoolrooms and allow us to showcase who we are as individuals. According to studies on digital identity and self-expression, having control over one's online representation can significantly impact confidence and self-esteem (Source: Journal of Educational Psychology).

We understand the need for appropriate content within educational settings. Therefore, we propose stricter guidelines or monitoring systems rather than completely taking away this right from all students.

My favorite thing is getting onto a Google Docs for a class and seeing a profile picture and smiling, because I know exactly who it is from the funny animated GIF. This is the key thing we are trying to fix and bring back, joy in school.

Let's not let the actions of a few dictate what all can do. Let's stand together as responsible members of our school district in Plano, TX, advocating for reinstating student profile pictures with proper regulations in place.
