I, Sparkle Jordan, respectfully submit this petition to request reinstatement as a Corrections Officer with the New York City Department of Corrections. After completing the investigation requirements I was hired for the positions as a Correction Officer on 7/20/2023. Termination came following a probationary review due to undisclosed telephone contact with an incarcerated individual from 2017. Though this omission was unintentional, I accept full responsibility for this oversight and am committed to upholding the Department’s values of integrity, transparency, and professionalism in my career.

My role as a Corrections Officer meant more to me than just a job; it was an opportunity to serve my community and contribute to society in a meaningful way. During my time with the Department, I consistently demonstrated a strong work ethic and dedication to my responsibilities. I was determined to make a positive impact through my everyday duties, ensuring the safety, security, and rehabilitation of those in custody.

I recognize that standards must be upheld to maintain trust within the Department, and these are values I embody and would continue if granted a second chance. I am seeking reinstatement to continue contributing positively to my department, colleagues, and the individuals under my supervision. I am confident that with the lessons learned from this experience, I will exceed the expectations set forth for me in my role.

Each day in the role of a Corrections Officer represents an opportunity to contribute positively to the Department's mission. This reinstatement is not simply about resuming my duties but about demonstrating my sincere commitment to growth and improvement.
