As someone who frequents pubs, I'm tired of stepping out into the cold to enjoy a cigarette. It's uncomfortable, inconvenient, and disrupts the social atmosphere. Allow us to light up inside, in designated pubs where smoking can be permitted. Smoking was banned in enclosed public places in the UK in 2007 to protect non-smokers, but it's been over a decade now — and it's time to reevaluate this blanket ban. The correlation between secondhand smoke and health-related problems is well established. However, diversifying pub establishments where some of them could voluntarily choose to permit smoking and others not, just like some restaurants continue to cater to both vegetarians and meat-eaters, is a valid proposition. This compromise can respect both the preferences of non-smokers and smokers. We are seeking amendments to current smoking laws to permit smoking in designated pubs.
