We want to share two important updates with you:
1️⃣ FOI Review Underway
Following our Freedom of Information (FOI) request into the Sandford–Strathaven route, we submitted a formal review after finding the Council’s response failed to fully address our concerns.
The Council confirmed today (18/09/25) that this review is being processed and will be completed by 16 October 2025. It will be handled by staff who were not involved in the original decision. If the review does not provide adequate answers, the next step will be to escalate to the Scottish Information Commissioner for an independent ruling.
This is about transparency and accountability – families deserve to know how assessments were made, why risks are being downplayed, and what criteria are being applied.
2️⃣ MSP Support
Màiri McAllan MSP and her team have confirmed their ongoing support for our campaign. They have raised concerns over the West of Scotland Road Safety guidance used by the Council – pointing out that it hasn’t been updated since 2004 and last reviewed in 2016.
The MSP’s office highlighted that Scottish Government guidance clearly states councils should review their transport criteria regularly, and factors such as street lighting must be considered. Yet, the Council’s FOI response confirmed that lighting was not part of their assessment.
⚠️ This support strengthens our case and proves that our concerns are both valid and shared at national level.
👉 Together, we are showing the Council and beyond that this route cannot be dismissed as “safe” without real-world conditions being taken into account.
Thank you all for continuing to sign, share, and speak up. Every voice matters.
