Reinstate safe bus service for Miller Elementary

The Issue

Many children in The Timbers neighborhood of Murphy, Texas, do not have a ride to school. They are as young as kindergarteners up to fifth graders, forced to walk across a rather perilous crosswalk where Murphy and Renner roads intersect. This intersection is notorious for frequent crashes, reckless drivers speeding, and cars that turn without checking for pedestrians in the crosswalk. In fact, the home at the end of Renner in our neighborhood has been crashed into countless times.

By reinstating school bus services for our children, we can greatly reduce the risk they face daily. School bus transportation is not merely a convenience; it is a matter of safety and security for our kids who deserve safe travel to and from school.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), students are 70 times more likely to get to school safely on a school bus than by traveling by car. Our community cannot afford to undermine the safety of these young children any longer, especially at an intersection like Murphy and Renner, which is hazardous even for adult pedestrians. (Just ask our Murphy and Richardson first responders!)

Bringing back bus service is a concrete step we can take to ensure the safety of our children. It's a proactive measure to prevent any potential tragedies that might arise from the increasingly dangerous conditions at the intersection they currently cross.

We call on the local education authorities and transportation departments to consider not just the convenience but the imperative need for ensuring student safety by reinstating the bus service. Children's lives and well-being should always remain a priority, and their school day should not start with a dangerous morning walk.

Join us in our effort to make sure the children of The Timbers neighborhood have a safe route to Miller Elementary. Sign the petition to demand the reinstatement of bus services for these young students.
