... and on nothing else. Since so many are eagerly maligning Professor Steven Salaita's scholarship to further their argument against his dismissal - never mind that they have not read his books or reviews of his work by other scholars, I'd like to share here one of the thousands of comments made on the petition in support of Professor Salita. The petition is approaching 12,500 signatories on its fourth day, among whom is Craig Michael JAPAN A minor qualification: I am not familiar enough with Prof. Salaita's academic record to know if I endorse the petition's secondary claim that he is "brilliant, ethical, and prolific." However, as a rising Ph.D. candidate who at times expresses his private political opinions in emotionally intemperate ways, I am deeply disturbed by the notion that my, or anyone's, employability should be judged on the basis of how vociferous I am in my non-professional communications. If the rescinding of Dr. Salaita's job offer is truly based on nothing other than his opposition to the Israeli government's attack on Gaza, I have no qualms whatsoever in demanding his reinstatement.
