The Issue

As a high school student in New Hampshire, I've experienced firsthand the challenges and limitations imposed by the ban on phones in schools. In today's digital age, smartphones are integral tools for learning, communication, and safety. Reigniting the conversation around allowing phones in educational settings is not just about convenience; it's about embracing modern technology to enhance our educational experiences.

Phones in classrooms can serve a multitude of educational purposes. From quick research and fact-checking to utilizing educational apps that reinforce class material, smartphones can greatly benefit students who are keen on learning. Moreover, with the advent of emergencies at schools, having access to a personal phone could be crucial for immediate communication with family members or authorities.

Statistics reveal schools that have embraced technology, including cellphone usage, show improved student engagement and academic performance. According to a study conducted by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), schools integrating technology reportedly saw a significant improvement in reading and math scores.

Furthermore, allowing phones in schools does not mean free rein for non-educational use. Implementing clear guidelines and restrictions, such as designated phone usage times during classes or silent mode enforcement, can prevent distractions while maximizing the benefits of technology.

By allowing phones in schools, New Hampshire could pioneer a more modern approach to education, preparing students for the technology-driven world. The goal is to equip us with the skills needed for future success while ensuring our safety and connectivity.

Join me in advocating for this change in our schools. Sign this petition to encourage the New Hampshire Department of Education to reconsider their stance on cellphone bans in schools and opt for solutions that integrate technology meaningfully and responsibly.
