Reinstate Peanut Butter in Wesleyan Athletic Center's Café Shakes

The Issue

I am student at Wesleyan University, and my daily routine includes a protein shake at the Cardinal Café, which always had a delicious and nutritious peanut butter option. It greatly contributes to my post-workout recovery and I hold that experience close to my heart. I love peanut butter due to its excellent source of protein and flavorful taste. Recently, someone mistakenly picked up a shake with peanut butter and had an allergic reaction. As a result, peanut butter was promptly removed from the menu, thereby affecting many students who, like myself, enjoy and benefit greatly from it in our shakes. With this petition, we want to express our empathy with allergy sufferers but also want to make sure that students who aren't allergic to peanut butter can still add it to their shakes. According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, only 0.6-1% of the population is allergic to peanuts. While their safety is of the utmost importance, measures such as maintaining strict cross-contamination prevention practices in the café, having clear labeling, and offering alternative protein sources can accommodate everyone's needs. We must find a balance that respects everyone's dietary requirements and preferences. By signing this petition, you're not only supporting the return of peanut butter but also advocating for a more inclusive and considerate environment in our athletic center's café at Wesleyan University. Let's get our beloved peanut butter back into our shakes! Please sign this petition.
