We write this with deep respect and sincere hearts—as a community of aspiring CPAs who have experienced the struggles of preparing for one of the most difficult licensure exams in the country. Many of us were once on the verge of giving up, but we found hope and a fighting chance through the availability of online refresher courses—especially during the first half of 2023.

While we do not hold formal authority, we speak as living proof of the life-changing impact that flexible learning options can provide. Without the option to take a refresher course online, many of us would not be among the proud passers of the December 2024 Licensure Exam for Certified Public Accountants. That program became a lifeline—for us and for countless others who simply needed a second chance.

We are now in a digital age where accessibility and inclusivity should be the norm. Many CPA hopefuls are no longer fresh graduates. We are working professionals, parents, breadwinners, and retakers. We carry the daily weight of responsibilities beyond academics. For us, attending a face-to-face refresher course is not always feasible—due to time constraints, distance, financial limitations, or personal obligations.

Refresher courses are currently offered only in select institutions, and not everyone has the privilege to relocate or travel long distances just to attend one. If we remove online options, we risk unintentionally excluding those who already face significant barriers. This change, though well-intended, may end up being anti-poor and restrictive, shutting out those who need the most support.

We all know how demanding the BSA program and the LECPA are. Failing once—or even twice—is not just discouraging; it can shatter one’s confidence and sense of purpose. Let us not make the journey harder than it already is. Let us respond with empathy. Let us extend flexibility and give hope to those who still believe in their dream.

This is a small act that can create a powerful impact.
